Item Description

Clusters of tiny classic rich apple-green, lustrous, hexagonal pyromorphite crystals are aesthetically scattered on the dramatic partially dissolved oxide-coated sharply terminated quartz crystal. This important and significant 360-degree old-time pyromorphite combination is from the Chester County Mine, the second largest mining operation within the famous Phoenixville mining district (the Wheatley mines were the largest). Primary ore production was from 1847-1854. Additional ore production took place from 1918-1920. I suspect this piece is from the late production, by the label. See the 1989 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 20, No. 5. RARE and exceptional pyromorphite and quartz from the well-known district. Specimens attributable to the Chester County Mine are very seldom available.
