Item Description
Juicy, translucent, sparkly, bright apple-green pyromorphite prisms, to 6 mm, are richly scattered on all sides of the very sculptural oxide-coated small cabinet quartz matrix. The striking vug with the large crystals is 3.0 cm. Pyromorphite from the historic mines at Roughton Gill is a signature and desirable English classic. Lead mining effectively ceased in Roughton Gill in 1876, with only a few specimens found since, so this is a real old-timer. And it has a fine provenance, having been in the Harvard Collection and come with century-old label. Ex David Burgess Collection. Valued at $400-600 for richness, color, quality and provenance.
