Item Description

Old-time pyromorphite from the historic mines at Roughton Gill is a signature and desirable English classic. Striking, unusually shaped, juicy, translucent, yellow-green prisms, to 1.2 cm, are richly and aesthetically scattered on the amazingly sculptural segmented quartz matrix. Some elongated hexagonal crystals are layered, some have striking club-shaped terminations and others look like little balls. Fascinating. Lead mining effectively ceased in Roughton Gill in 1876, with only a few specimens found since, so this is probably a real old-timer. Ex Howard Belsky Collection. Valued at $1000-1250 for richness, unusual crystal habits, color and quality.
