Pyromorphite on Pyromorphite (classic find!)

Absolutely STELLAR specimen from the famous Les Farges Mine, one of the world's greatest Pyromorphite localities. Active from 1975 to 1981 (sacre bleu, such a short time!), it is known for its tremendous diversity among the Pyromorphite crystals produced there. I can think of no better example of diversity within one single specimen than illustrated on this great small cabinet piece with such variety here. The piece is composed of highly lustrous, chocolate-brown, hexagonal Pyromorphites to 9 mm. Nice for sure, but then many of these crystals have a second generation of bright, apple-green Pyromorphite coatings on the terminations, or attached acicular needles that are lustrous and gemmy. This second general so reminds us of the Pyromorphites from the great Chaillac locality, also in France (but not with the more robust crystals underneath).We called this the "gardens" here and the piece is even better in person so please also see the video... Such incredible aesthetics! This was recently deaccessed from the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums.
