Item Description

The venerable Wheatley Mines are one of the most cherished of the US Pyromorphite localities. This cabinet specimen is centered on a lustrous, well-formed, 6 cm Quartz crystal, which in turn has rich areas of massive to crystallized Pyromorphite. The Quartz is one of the largest ever found at Wheatley, and considering that the mines close in 1920, this is certainly a fine, representative piece that has survived the last century very well. Formerly in the Raymond W. Strohmeier collection. An amazing display piece, as most of these look grungy, and consist of carpets of pyromorphite on ugly matrix. This specimen, on a beautiful quartz cluster, is unique in my experience and frankly hard to value, it is so special for this old locality.
