Pyromorphite on Barite (Lyckberg & Reynolds Coll.)

Item Description

Lustrous, olive-green pyromorphite prisms are strikingly festooned on three sides of the wedge-shaped, oxide-coated massive barite matrix on this very rich and showy small cabinet combination from the renowned Les Farges Mine. I particularly like the way the larger prisms are concentrated at the top of the piece. The crystals reach 1.3 cm and many are dramatically accented by the desirable deep, well-developed hoppered terminations. The scattered bruising and broken crystals are certainly only modest detractions to this impressive rich specimen. Every turn presents a strikingly different perspective to this fine small cabinet of this varietal. The base has been sawed. Classic material from this famed world-class pyromorphite mine, that closed in 1981. The December, 2009 issue of the French periodical, Le Regne Mineral, is devoted entirely to this noted locale and is filled with photographs of fabulous Les Farges pyromorphites.
