Item Description
Two generations of lustrous, translucent, bi-colored olive-green pyromorphite barrels to about 5 mm blanket two faces of the large gossan matrix on this showy and most excellent, old-time specimen from the historic Phoenixville District. The mines opened in the early 1850s and were all closed by 1870, furnishing lead for the US Civil War. Truly old-time material with its leathery old label dating to the active mining era (a real bonus). This is a very rich and aesthetic, two-sided example of the species and locale, especially when you consider the age of the piece. Very minor brusing is noted. Certainly acceptabe considering the crystal density and specimen age. Most pyromorphite collectors must have one or more of these rarities for their collections to be complete. From the historic USA suite of the George Elling Collection. Valued at $2000 and has many display possibilities. BETTER IN PERSON.
