Item Description

A rarely seen Pyromorphite specimen from the Mount Isa Mines in Queensland, Australia. This piece is not from Black Star open cut, which re-opened in 2005. It's an older piece before the Black Star was started, as demonstrated by the old label from Dick Bideaux (Bideaux Minerals) who died in 2004. The piece is filled with excellent, prismatic, well-formed, hexagonal crystals (some of which show slightly skeletal or "hoppered" terminations) of a vary pastel golden and greenish hues, measuring up to 8 mm long, sitting on oxidized matrix. Nearly every crystal is undamaged, though a few tiny imperfections can be seen. One of the better pieces of this material that we've had to offer in the auctions, and it's a must have if you're a fan of lead minerals, secondary ore minerals, worldwide Pyromorphites, or Australian minerals! From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011. Valued at $1,800.
