Pyromorphite (classic material) (pictured in the Mineralogical Record)

Item Description

The famed Les Farges Mine in France is certainly one of the premier localities in the world for Pyromorphite. Historically, it has produced some of the finest colored examples (often showing multiple colors in the same crystals) of the species ever seen. It's not the type locality for the species, but Les Farges is one of the great classic European localities, hands down. This is a lovely display specimen from this classic locality featuring hexagonal prisms that range from an olive-green hue at the base, which transition upward into and ochre color with some crystals showing more of golden shape in areas. The crystals are sharp and lustrous, measuring up to 1.0 cm long, and sit atop an oxidized layer over white Baryte matrix. Most of the Pyromorphite crystals are undamaged, and look beautiful under magnification. The piece sits wonderfully on its own without the aid of a base or clay, and looks great in person. A great piece for anybody who likes Pyromorphite, old classics from Europe or minerals of France.
