Pyromorphite (classic material) (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

The San Andres Mine is one of the premier localities for Pyromorphite in the world. It's safe to say that this mine the most significant contemporary Pyromorphite locality in Europe. Although specimens have been found at this mine dating back about 100 years, the best and most well-known examples have come out in the last few decades, including some risky collecting ventures that took place after the mined closed about 20 years ago. This large thumbnail display specimen features a group of gorgeous intense apple green colored hexagonal prismatic crystals of Pyromorphite measuring up to 4 mm long sitting on white Quartz matrix. The color is very good for the locality, as would rival the best green hues from famous localities like Bunker Hill or the contemporary Daoping Mine in China. The majority of the crystals on the specimen are damage free, though there are a few tiny contacts, which is par for the course as these pieces are almost impossible to find in completely pristine specimens. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11492). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
