Pyromorphite is one of the most popular secondary ore minerals among collectors around the world. This is due to the fact that the species is colorful, and found in numerous world localities in fine display specimens. Then you throw in the fact that the crystals are just plain beautiful.. The famous Bunker Hill Mine was an important lead-zinc-silver deposit that produced some of the finest Pyromorphite specimens from any locality in the Western Hemisphere. The mine operated for a century (closing forever in 1988), and fine quality specimens such as this one are now quite difficult to obtain on the market, especially nearly 40 years after it came out of the ground. This piece came from a discovery in the late 1970s-early 1980s and features beautiful, fine quality, lustrous, sharp, well-formed, greenish-yellow colored hexagonal prisms of Pyromorphite measuring up to 8 mm sitting on a thin layer of hollow/cavernous matrix Great condition all over, with no major damage that I can see. Classic material from Idaho, you don't see it around anymore, and the best pieces from Bunker Hill are among the best Pyromorphites in the world.
From the collection of Jack Halpern No. 3014 . Jack was born May 18, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York, but has been a long-time resident of San Francisco. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the world encompassing over 3,200 specimens with a specific emphasis on color, quality, and style/aesthetics, which is evident in every piece. He admired specimens of all sizes from thumbnails to large cabinets and the vast majority of them rank from fine to world-class in their quality.
Above all else, Jack is considered to be the greatest gentleman in the modern era of mineral collecting. He is beloved by all those who have met him, and he truly is one of the most iconic figures in the mineral world. We recently acquired Jack's collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality pieces for their collections.
