Pyromorphite (classic material)

Item Description

The famed Les Farges Mine in France was the source of what are inarguably some of the finest examples of Pyromorphite ever found. This mine is one the great old European localities, and very places on Earth can match the color and quality of the specimens that have been found there. This piece is a beautiful display specimen featuring fine, sharp, lustrous, striated, hexagonal prisms (some of which are doubly-terminated) of a rich golden-green hue measuring up to 1.5 cm, aesthetically covering the underlying oxidized matrix. Nearly all of the crystals are undamaged and the piece displays well from several angles. Showy and fine quality. These are not nearly as easy to find on the market as they were 20-30 years ago, and are true classics.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011. The piece is labeled as coming from the Massif Central, which is a highland region in south-central France, just west of where the Les Farges Mine lies.
