Item Description

Lustrous, tapering, pretty forest-green, pyromorphite prisms in striking arborescent or plumose forms solidly comprise this aesthetic specimen from the famous Les Farges Mine of France and the Steve Smale Collection. Many of the stacked crystal clusters are strikingly curved and many crystal clusters have a secondary overgrowth of tiny, nubby crystals. This very showy and fine piece has many display possibilities and the quality could be certainly enhanced with an expert cleaning removing the iron oxides, particulary on the back. Very nearly pristine, with very few broken crystals, for such dense coverage. CLASSIC material from this famous mine, that closed in 1981. The December, 2009 issue of the French periodical, le Regne Mineral, is devoted entirely to this noted locale and is filled with photgraphs of fabulous Les Farges pyromorphites. This would fit right in! A must for any pyromorphite collector! Valued $2500.
