Item Description

Sculptural, rich and showy solid small cabinet of intergrown bi-colored pyromorphite crystals from the famed and extinct Les Farges Mine of France. This is a classic combination of lustrous, olive-green hexagonal crystals, to 1.4 cm, with mustard-yellow terminations. Many of the intricately opposing prisms are hoppered, which adds a striking visual aspect to the piece. The thin pieces of rust-brown, oxide-tinted Baryte are a typical and showy accessory. The scattered noted periphery wear/contacting is certainly acceptable in the context of this piece. This world-class pyromorphite locale was only open from 1975 to 1981 and is renowned for the wide variety of crystal habits and colors. The December 2009 issue of the French periodical, Le Regne Mineral, is devoted entirely to this noted locale and is filled with photographs of fabulous Les Farges pyromorphites. Classic and excellent pyromorphite of this style.
