Pyromorphite (classic find)

Item Description

Chocolate-brown, lustrous, translucent pyromorphite prisms and crystal sections in striking opposing clusters dramatically cover the front of this impressive large specimen from the Kintore opencut of the famed Broken Hill deposit. The crystals reach about 2.3 cm long. Pyromorphite crystals on the back are coated. Essentially solid pyromorphite with a thin attachment crust at the base of sparkly, microcrystalline to granular Galena at the base. The opencut was active from the late 1980s until 1996 and was known for its wealth of secondary mineral species. The pit worked the remaining oxide portion of the southern end of the Broken Hill lode (MINDAT). Hefty lead ore, mass is 901 grams or 2.0 pounds. Ex Kurt Hefendehl Collection, a well-known German collector who amassed a world-wide collection of over 6000 pieces. Amazingly rich, uncommon and showy large solid crystallized pyromorphite from the noted locale.
