Item Description

Good, representative, old-time Pyromorphite from the famous Roughton Gill area in Cumbria, England - this mine is famous for mimetite variety campylite but ALSO produced, rarely, some pyromorphite. The hexagonal, well-formed Pyromorphites range up 6 mm in length, and the attractive color is mostly light green. The crystals richly fill the vug within the matrix. A few of the terminations are missing, but considering that pieces from here go way back to the mid-1800's, that is not a surprise. This is an attractive miniature from a venerable old locality. This was recently deaccessed from the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums.
