Item Description

The venerable Wheatley Mines are one of the most cherished of the US Pyromorphite localities. This choice cabinet specimen is covered by a substantial layer of rich, green Pyromorphite, much of which develops into well-defined and attractive botryoids. This botryoidal habit is quite rare for Pyromorphite, especially here at Wheatley. Associated with well-formed crystals of Quartz. Considering that the mines closed in 1920, a specimen of this quality and of such an uncommon habit is a rarity, and it has survived the last century very well. Formerly in the Allan Crunden, Harold C. Buckelew, and Dr. Joseph Kaufman collections. Crunden collection were among of the best of the era, and ended up in Harvard from whence this was exchanged or deaccessioned out.
