The famous Les Farges Mine, active from 1975 to 1981, is one of the world's greatest Pyromorphite localities, known for the tremendous diversity among the Pyromorphite crystals. This small cabinet is a prime example of the color diversity here in one place: The olive-brown, hexagonal crystals have superb luster and form, and the terminations have an off-white coating. Not only are preferential coatings such as these interesting in and of themselves, but they are one of Les Farges' signature looks. The crystals range up to 9 mm, and they are in excellent condition. This is a superb, highly aesthetic specimen, and with Les Farges closing in 1981, I don’t need to tell you how hard it is to get good Les Farges pieces these days. Even better in person. This was recently deaccessed from the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums.
