Item Description

Pyrolusite is a well-known manganese oxide, but good crystallized examples from the state Hesse (Hessia), Germany are extremely rare to find on the market. The piece comes out of an old East Coast collection with an historic label from the legendary mineral dealer, Hugh A. Ford. Since the label has Ford's New York address it dates to 1946-1957, so we know the piece is at least 60 years old, and more than likely closer to 100 years. Sharp, prismatic "bursts" of semi-metallic Pyrolustite cover the display side of this attractive overall specimen. Crystals measure up to 6 mm, and considering that I've only seen two others, it's honestly what I would consider to be the best one that I've handled. Don't miss out on this great old historic German classic.
