Item Description
Pyrolusite from pegmatites is not at all common, especially in sculptural pieces like this one which is simply subtly beautiful aside from any species or chemistry. Mounded, charcoal gray botryoids of Pyrolusite are associated with silvery Muscovite and white Albite. This occurrence of Pyrolusite from the Itatiaia has never been reported previously and it occurs as a very late stage mineral deposited on all earlier formed pegmatite minerals in cavities in the mine. This hefty piece consists of mounded, sub-metallic, charcoal gray botryoids of the mineral composed of even smaller plumose botryoids making a mounded aggregate that covers a matrix consisting of Muscovite and Albite.
