Item Description

Psilomelane (on the label) is an obsolete group name for a number of hard black manganese oxides ,and this piece is probably Pyrolusite by todays naming standards (though has not been xrayed). It is certainly aesthetic and uncommon from this old, underground mining district, dating to the early 20th century. This fantastical, pristine, 360-degree piece has a striking radiating columnar form capped by amazing bubbly, botryoidal forms. Rare, old-time and excellent material from this Bob Trimingham Collection.
