Splendent metallic to coated pyrolusite blades, to 2.3 cm, dramatically fill a large sculptural vug with drusy quartz on the large banded jasperoid matrix on this rich, older and excellent specimen. Undoubtedly from the extinct Taylor Mine, an obscure, small open-pit iron mine and nearby prospects noted for fine pyrolusite specimens. L'Anse is the County Seat of Baraga County. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 8929. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). The piece displays well without aid and has several fine display views.
