Item Description

A superb 360-degree cluster of very sharp intergrown pyritohedrons from this famous Italian mine. The crystals have bright brassy lustre and striking stepped-growth striated faces. The two large stacked pyritohedrons, to 4.1 cm wide, are dramatically accented by smaller attached crystals. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, the attachment is one one side of a smaller crystal on the large pyritohedron and is out-of-sight in most of the many outstanding presentation views. Pyrite from this mine, closed before 1984, is world-class and rivals pyrite from Rio Marina on Elba Island, Peru, Spain and Washington State. An exceptional small cabinet example of a common mineral. Valued at $750-1000. RARE in this form and very high quality.
