Item Description

Complex cuboctahedral form and mirror-bright brassy luster characterize this striking, large and sharp pyrite from the Merelani Hills, renowned for the world's finest tanzanites and outstanding diopside and grossular garnet specimens. Complete all-around and in fine condition considering its size and the rough nature of mining here. Modest contacting and bruising are noted on the display faces, with dings on the left edge and back of the termination being mostly out-of-sight. In context the damage is only a minimal detraction to this exceptionaly large and rare pyrite from this locale. Mass is 651 grams or 1.4 pounds. Tanzania is now included in the list of the world's great pyrite producers!
