Item Description

The famous Eagle Mine was located near the now ghost town of Gilman, Colorado and produced some of the finest crystallized Pyrite specimens from any mine in the state. The habit of crystals from this mine is almost always pyritohedral and feature fine luster and form. This small cabinet sized specimen hosts a group excellent quality, sharp, lustrous, soft golden metallic colored crystals showing classic striated pyritohedral form, free of matrix. The largest crystal measures 9 cm across. A solitary 1.0 cm crystal of black Sphalerite can be seen flaring off the top of the piece for a nice touch. The piece is in great condition on the top / display side, and the only major damage is on the back where it was removed from the pocket wall, though a few small dings can be seen on the front. A very attractive display specimen of this well known material from this now defunct locality.
