Item Description

As Pyrite specimens go, this is most unusual and surprisingly attractive. The oval-shaped "ball" is solid, microcrystalline Pyrite, and it rests on a first mineral generation of Dolomite rhombs on the matrix. After the Pyrite formed, about one-third of the pyrite nodule was covered with a second generation of tiny white, sparkling calcite crystals. This is accented by a band of rust-red crystals where they border the bare Pyrite. From the famous Cavnic District in Romania. Great condition and very unique aesthetics. Mined 1980, and better in person. Originally priced at $1800.
