Item Description

This ancient mining district produced the first copper mined in Japan, in the year 707 C.E. (MINDAT)! Specimens from here are uncommon. This is a large, 3-dimensional mass of tightly intergrown, brassy, pyrite cubes with a very interesting foliated look. Microcrystalline sphalerite totally covers one face and is scattered elsewhere. A shapely and excellent combination specimen from this historic and uncommon Japanese locale. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection.
