Spanish pyrites set the standard for crystallographic perfection in nature, almost always as the perfect cubic shape, representing the microscopic crystal structure of the iron sulfide molecules that compose pyrite itself. In this location, remarkable and unique conditions led to the formation of several veins in the single big mountain , of perfect crystals formed without imperfections or inclusions that cause deviation from nature's perfect cubic forms in pyrite from other locations. That being said, SOMETIMES, rarely, perhaps 1 in 1000, we see these sharp rectangles form at Navajun. The elongated C axis converts the cube to a perfect retangle, making for a stunning shape that contrasts with all the others. This perfect rectangle is 5x8 x 3.3 x 2.5 cm in size, and sits dramatically on its natural matrix (repaired in after physical excavation, as are most of these specimens).
