Pyrite (unusual habit)

Here we have an interesting specimen of Pyrite from the famed Stari Trg Mine in Kosovo (formerly Yugoslavia), which is one of the great orebodies in the world in terms of the sheer quantity and quality of the specimens produced. This well-known locality has yielded a good number of fine quality various sulfides and carbonates over the years. It is still in production, and is part of a larger group of 40 comprising the Trepča Complex, which is a giant lead-zinc-silver deposit located on the slopes of Kopaonik Mountain. This piece features a prominent cubic crystal group of metallic golden Pyrite with a notably unusual, slightly "curved" habit, associated with minor Quartz and Siderite/Dolomite at the base. The piece is in good condition of the front/display side, but it is incomplete on the back where it separated from the pocket wall. A good overall specimen for anybody who collects sulfides, worldwide Pyrites or has an interest in minerals from the Stari Trg Mine.
