Item Description

These Sparta, Illinois pyrite "suns" are some of the most iconic and unusual Illinois specimens. They formed between an ancient bed of shale and clay. This one is complete all-around. The front is pristine and the back is gently contacted. The radial appearance of the pyrite is dramatic and the pyrite has a striking flashy golden chatoyant shimmer. Highly representative of this unusual occurrence. This is a choice specimen for the find and an ol done, with unusually fine and complete crystallization and patina whereas many are somewhat uneven or disrupted in appearance.
