Item Description

This is the first and only specimen of Pyrite we've ever had to offer from this area. This full-sized thumbnail is loaded with excellent, very sharp, well-formed, highly lustrous, soft golden metallic crystals of Pyrite measuring up to 1.2 cm, with no matrix, and a small amount of white Quartz near the base. The Pyrites are primarily octahedral in habit, but you can see very thin dodecahedral modifications along the egdes, and what appear to be pyritohedral modifications on certain tips. Overall the piece is in very good shape, though not completely pristine, as small imperfections are present. If you collect thumbnails, sulfides, worldwide Pyrites or rare locality pieces, this is something that I'm sure most of you don't have in your collections.
This specimen comes from the lifelong worldwide thumbnail collection of Dr. Alexander ("Alex") Schauss (#1001). I would advise reading the interview at https://www.irocks.com/collector-interview-alex-schauss to get a better understanding of who he is as a mineral collector and a person.
