Item Description

A striking, highly unusual pyrite specimen from the ancient iron mines at Rio Marina, Elba. The large, 5.7 x 5.2 cm, textbook pyritohedron has incredible, etched/stepped-growth faces, unlike any I have seen from this locale. The mirror-bright, brass-yellow, crystal is complete all-around and pristine. It rests on a classic matrix of bladed hematite. This is a dramatic, old-time and classic combination specimen from this historic locale. Ex Jaime Bird Collection and comes with a 1970s-era Roberts Minerals label.
