Item Description

The ancient iron mines at Rio Marina are renowned for fine pyrite specimens. This excellent, pyrite pyritohedron has mirror-bright luster and rich, brassy color. The crystal jumps out at you from every face. A modest bit of corner and periphery wear are noted, but are strongly minimized in the favored display view. Specimens from this stope, with modern mining from the early 1800s to 1962, are rare. Ex Giancarlo Fioravanti Collection and obtained from a Rio Marina collection in 1965. An ultimate Elba Island classic.
