Item Description
The Nanisivik Mine, I believe, is the northernmost-producing specimen mine. It is within the Arctic Circle and the mine engineers I used to buy these from had them sent out by helicopter in the late 80s and early 90s. No more. I have not heard of anything recently to market from here, as the mine closed in 2002. This is an excellent cluster of sharp, lustrous, brassy pyrite pseudomorphing incredibly complex marcasite crystals. The striking large crystal is 1.5 cm. The incredibly diverse forms of pyrite pseudos are unique to this locality. A modest periphery wear is noted, which is certainly not detracting. Choice material.
