Sculptural and unusual large mounded spherical combination from this well-known, now closed, polymetallic mine at historic Cavnic, Romania. A striking "cap" of small, densely intergrown pyritohedrons with brassy luster dramatically covers the piece. Some of the pyrites have pretty light iridescence and there is a patch of tiny siderite crystals on one side. A thin rind of sparkly, sugary, light pink Rhodochrosite lies beneath the pyrite. The matrix is banded dolomite, which has pseudomorphed (casted) the sharp impressions of dissolved away calcite scalenohedrons. The dolomite also hosts sections of rubyjack sphalerite crystals, as a bonus. 1458 grams or 3.2 pounds mass. A surreal large 360-degree mounded combination with a pyrite "cap" and pseudomorphs from the famous mine.
