Item Description
This is a sparkling botryoidal looking Pyrite piece from an undisclosed locality in Socorro County, New Mexico. This small cabinet specimen features two generations of Pyrite, the first was octahedral Pyrite with crystals ranging in size from 0.5 to 1.5 cm across that were then overgrown by finely crystalline Pyrite giving the piece an appearance of being botryoidal, but it's not. Overall, the piece has a slightly iridescent, brassy luster with a mounded look. The Pyrite formed on a thin piece of matrix covered by drusy, 1 to 2 mm Calcite rhombs that are visible around the periphery and on the bottom. In great condition, an unusual location piece that came through David Garske and Tony Jones.
