Item Description

Some of the most celebrated Pyrite specimens in the world are the classic pieces from the Isle of Elba. The are renowned for their quality and excellent crystallization. These specimens have been known for centuries, but have remained among the upper ranks of the species. This specimen is features a pair of sharp, well-formed, metallic golden pyritohedra measuring up to 3.2 cm across sitting atop tiny crystallized black metallic Hematite matrix. The front faces of the crystals are notably smooth and lustrous. No major damage on the display side, though it's not complete on the back where it was removed from the pocket wall. An impressive, eye-catching and example of these iconic and historic specimens. The piece actually sits nicely on its own without the aid of a base or clay. From the collection of noted dealer and collector Richard (Rich) Kosnar of Colorado (1946-2007). Rich had a large suite of European classics, and his company Mineral Classics was named specifically for the old European classics that he admired so much.
