Item Description

An impressive and uncommon large pyrite and calcite combination from the famous mines at Pribram. Golden pyrite microcrystals preferentially coat much of the very sculptrual cluster of large, sharp calcite scalenohedrons. The crystals resemble a jagged mountain range or teeth from a large carnivore. Second generation lustrous and transluscent gray calcite, especially the striking terminations and stepped-growth faces covers the first generation of iron oxide-tinted calcite. The back of piece reveals the earlier calcite generation. The gently to moderately cleaved terminations on some of the calcites are noted, but are certainly only modest detractions to this large, very showy and uncommon style of calcite and pyrite from this classic locale.
