Item Description

Mining began at Mine Hill in 1732, initially for silver and later for iron. Reports on the locality go back to 1831! Splendent, striated, brass-yellow, pyrite pyritohedrons to 1.3 cm are scattered on both sides of the quartz and siderite matrix. Showy and excellent, old-time material from this classic and long-closed Connecticut locale. Ex Charles Velte Collection.
