Item Description
Remarkable pyrite from this Late Ordivician-aged (457-444 mya) Virginia limestone aggregate quarry. The faces of this striking 360-degree compound crystal cluster of octahedrons have bright brassy lustre accentuated with significant stepped-growth. Many of the modified octos are dramatically accented with cubic corners resembling a Mayan stepped-pyramid with a flat platform top. Scattered patches of snow-white calcite are a nice contrast and accessory. Specimens of this quality are very hard to get from this quarry and this is a very fine example. Ex Lee Burnett Collection of Morrison, Colorado. Super rare , from one old find! valued $500-1000
