Item Description

Octahedral Pyrite is not terribly common around the world. Perhaps the most iconic octahedral Pyrites are those from Butte, Montana, but there are various mines in Peru that have produced superb quality octahedral crystals of this well-known sulfide. With that said, I don't know if we've ever had a piece of octahedral Pyrite from the Milpo Mine. This miniature sized specimen features a group of lustrous, soft golden metallic colored, well-formed octahedra measuring up to 1.5 cm across free of matrix. Yes there are some dings here and there, so it's not pristine, but if you collect Pyrite or if you're a Peruvian mineral fan, this is a rarely seen specimen of an uncommon habit that would make a great addition to your collection. This piece comes to us from a prominent Midwest collection that we recently acquired.
