Three, mirror-bright, brass-yellow, textbook pyrite pyritohedrons to 3.6 cm are dramatically perched atop the sculptural matrix of tiered specular hematite on this striking and aesthetic large pyrite and hematite specimen from the ancient iron mines at Rio Marina. The primary pyrites in the display view are pristine, with only trivial periphery wear noted to one crystal on back side. A nest of lustrous, large hematite blades on the bottom is a nice surprise! This is a very fine, old-time and classic large combination specimen from this historic locale. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection.
