This is a wonderful and showy small cabinet display specimen of this classic material from high in the Peruvian Andes. This piece is a group of fine quality, very sharp, highly lustrous / splendent, metallic golden colored, striated, modified cuboctahedral crystals of Pyrite free of matrix. The largest Pyrite measures 5.3 cm and there is no damage as far as I can see with the naked eye. There are several smaller crystals of Pyrite on the base of the specimen, creating a "bed" on which the main crystal rests. Great quality all around, with the only real damage on the base where it detached from the pocket wall, though a few small contacts can be seen on the display side. Very attractive and eye-catching. Peruvian Pyrites are among the finest quality examples of the species extant. These specimens are some of the most iconic sulfides in the world and should be appreciated as much.
