Item Description
Elba Pyrites are renowned for their superior size, quality, form and overall beauty. This thumbnail specimen is an excellent example of this classic material featuring a predominant, sharp, lustrous, soft golden metallic colored crystal with a combination of pyritohedral, octahedral and cubic faces associated with a few smaller Pyrites of equal quality. The piece is nearly a complete "floater", but there is a small contact on the back. I love the stark striation lines that can be seen on selective pyritohedral faces, which play nicely against the smooth, brilliant octahedral and cubic faces. A truly fine quality and attractive example of this world famous material. Hard to photograph, better in person. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#5428). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
