Item Description
A fine quality and elusive Pyrite specimen from Virginia! This piece features predominatly octahedral habit crystals, but they are notably modified, with dozens if not hundreds of tiny "stair step" faces along the edges. The crystals all show small square cubic faces on the ends of each crystal. The color is a metallic golden-bronze hue. Virtually undamaged, and I would consider this piece to be a "floater", as I cannot find a true point of attachment. These are very hard to get from this less well-known limestone quarry and this is a good one, especially due to its size. Formerly in the collection of D. Allen Penick of Lexington, Virginia.
