Item Description
The Huanzala Mine of Peru has arguably produced the world's finest pyrites and this miniature specimen is an outstanding example. Distinctively striated, highly lustrous, brassy, interpenetrating, very elongated pyritohedrons form this very sculptural specimen. The longest crystal is 3.4 cm. The textbook form and intense striations are top notch. A trivial bit of edge wear and one broken face are noted, but are certainly only modest detractions. Classic Huanzala material with 360-degree viewability! Specimens of this quality came out in the 1970s and 80s. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!! The Cynthia Payne Collection label and the former dealer label says the Kara-Oba W deposit of Kazakhstan, where pyrite is very rare. We believe this piece is from the famous Huanzala Mine.
