Item Description

A excellent and rare pyrite crystal from the ancient iron mines at Rio Marina. The crystal habit is fairly rare for the locale, a pyritohedron with octahedral modifications, with all of the many faces. It is lustrous with rich, bronzy color. The crystal is complete all-around and pristine. One face has a contact, with no damage, per se and the contact is at the base. Specimens from this stope, with modern mining from the early 1800s to 1962, are RARE. Ex Giancarlo Fioravanti Collection and obtained from a Rio Marina collection in 1966. A very fine and very rare in this form Elba Island classic.
