The Eagle Mine is best known for producing some of the most iconic specimens of Pyrite from any mine in Colorado. The large plates of textbook, mirror-bright pyritohedrons found a place into nearly every collection in the world including most museums. This piece is a wonderful example of this material featuring dozens upon dozens of sharp, lustrous, well-formed, striated, golden, metallic pyritohedral crystals of Pyrite measuring up to 8 mm across sitting on massive Pyrite and Sphalerite matrix. Small compressed "discs" of tan Siderite are sprinkled about. For the most part, the piece is in excellent shape, though there are a few imperfections here and there, which is par for the course when it comes to this material. Obviously the periphery of the specimen is contacted where it was removed from the pocket wall, like virtually every Pyrite specimen from this mine. The best aspect of the piece is that it's not "flat", but rather a prodigious, three-dimensional group with great displayability. A fine example of this famous old material from this now defunct classic locality. Valued at $800. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019).
