Pyrite is one of the most recognized and well-known sulfides in the world. Some of the finest examples of this famous mineral have been coming out of Peru for decades. This piece is from the famed Huanzala Mine, and features beautiful, good sized, splendent crystals of sharp, striated, pale golden octahedral Pyrite free of matrix. You can see some thin pyritohedral modifications along the edges of the crystals for a nice touch. The main crystal in the front the specimen measures 5.1 cm across. There are some small nicks and dings, plus the back of the specimen is not complete where it was separated from the pocket wall, but it's still a very presentable specimen with wonderfully bright and showy crystals. It doesn't get more classic than Peruvian Pyrites, as they are some of the biggest and finest quality examples of the species ever found. Valued $1,250.
