Item Description
Outside of the Elba, the Pyrites from the Niccioleta Mine might be the most well-known examples of the species in Italy. They often feature textbook cubic forms with typically brilliant and razor-sharp faces. This piece is no exception as it is filled with many fine quality crystals of a pale metallic golden hue measuring up to 2.0 cm on edge. Most of the crystals are in good condition, but peripheral roughness and a few tiny nicks keep the piece from being damage-free. Overall it's a very showy and eye-catching example of these well-known, yet now hard to find Pyrites as the mine closed prior to 1984 according to mindat.org. This specimen was mined in the late 1960s for reference.
